There was a period of calm around the U.S. during the summer of 1941.  Pearl Harbor was still months away and most counties and towns had made their way back from the Great Depression.  You can sense that in this series of photos from the Vermont State Fair in 1941.  No one was rich, but everyone came out to enjoy the show and each other...

Sometimes it was just as fun to watch the bumper cars as it was to ride in them.  We remember spending much of the afternoon doing just this.
